  • Managing a team of mechanical fitters for ship repair projects
  • Projects will include overhauling of main engines, auxiliary engines, tail shafts, rudders, propellers, sea valves, sea chests, pumps, etc
  • Projects will be time and budget sensitive and must adhere to production requirements
  • Several projects may be running concurrently and so must be able to multitask
  • Liaising with the Ship Repair Managers and Superintendents throughout the duration of the projects
  • Regular reporting to Production Manager regarding project progress and workforce performance
  • Ensuring your team adhere to strict health and safety regulations at all times
  • Apprentices may be seconded to the Mechanical department as part of their apprenticeship training, therefore, monitoring and mentoring is required
  • Some light administration duties for your department will be necessary

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Industry recognised mechanical engineering qualification is essential
  • Experience in working within the shipping / naval / engineering / construction sector is essential
  • Experience in managing a team of workers in a project based setting
  • Must be fluent in either English or Spanish, both would be desirable but not essential
  • Flexibility and reliability is essential, and have a willingness to work with other members of the team to achieve goals and objectives.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary is reviewed annually.
  • Current rate for this position is £12.37 per hour plus a daily allowance of £20.32 (for days where over 5 hours have been worked)
  • Core working hours are Monday to Thursday 08:00 - 16:30hrs, Friday 08:00 - 15:30hrs (39 hours)
  • Overtime will be required dependant on work demands and is paid at x1.5, with Sundays and bank holidays paid at x2
  • Generous annual paid leave of 22 days plus bank holidays (currently 12)
  • Annual sick leave entitlement of 2 weeks full pay and 4 weeks half pay after 3 month probation period
  • Eligible for quarterly attendance bonus after 3 months' probation period
  • Eligible to join the company pension scheme after 12 months of continuous employment

Due to the cost of living in a large percentage of the workforce live in Spain and travel over daily.

€500 will be paid towards the first month of accommodation (in Spain)
