The Naval Architect reporting to the Technical Director and working within a small but growing team the Naval Architect will be responsible for leading the design for the integration of the company's technology systems onto ships (new build and retrofit)
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead the design for integration of the Company's systems onto retrofit and new build ships and manage consultants and/or internal resources conducting this work.
• Develop specifications for technical integration packs to be sent to shipyards/ owners/ design houses for detailed development and Plan Approval, including consideration of structural, power, stability, visibility, operation and safety requirements.
• Develop proposals in accordance with rule requirements and regulations, including visibility navigation, stability, safety, operation, EEDI etc. (Technical Feasibility Studies)
• Provide input on ship hydrodynamics to support the Company's performance predictions and optimization of system design to maximise performance and fuel savings
• Identify, document and present technical risk with appropriate mitigation measures
• Actively participate and contribute to future collaborations with industry/ academic partners e.g. SSPA, MARIN, Class, Universities
• Provide input into the Plan approval submissions and responses
• Provide expertise and guidance during the fit/ retrofit of the Company's systems to ensure clarity and to overcome any unexpected issues
Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Naval Architecture or equivalent
• Actively working towards corporate membership of RINA
Knowledge and Experience
• Experience of design and classification of ship structures and general arrangements across a range of ship types
• Experienced with classification and product Type Approval requirements for Marine Equipment
• Strong understanding of vessel propulsion and performance analysis from both a practical and analytical perspective
• Experienced in hydro-dynamics of below the water line effects, rudder/ propeller/ hull
• Experience of specification and interpretation of CFD studies
• Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD
• Experience of working collaboratively with third parties, ideally including shipyards, designers and clients
