Power Electronics Design Engineer
Working as part of a multi-national team you will be a technically experienced power electronics design engineer for a range of applications in automotive and industrial fields.
Your everyday duties will include:
- Power electronics design
- Detailed circuit design of all aspects of power conversion electronics
- Concept system development
- Electronics design simulation
- PCB layout guidance
- Bill of materials development and electronics solution costing
- Worst case circuit analysis
- Failure mode analysis
- System and architecture definition
- Development of hardware specifications
- Technical proposal development assistance and task definition
- Working with mechanical, thermal and software design teams to deliver complete product designs
- Coaching and leading the development of others, especially in technical areas
- Customer communication
Successful candidates will have the following skills and characteristics:
Essential:
- A Bachelors or Masters Degree in engineering or science
- A professional and diligent approach
- Hardware design core skills / deep understanding of:
- Specification of electronics hardware requirements
- Detailed design experience of power converter output stage electronics (up to 100kW)
- Detailed design experience of 3-phase power factor corrected active power supplies (up to 100kW)
- Detailed design experience of 3-phase motor drive inverters including 2-level and multi-level inverters (up to 100kW)
- Design experience with wide band gap devices including SiC and GaN
- Detailed design experience of gate drive circuits for silicon and WBG devices
- Design experience of power filtering techniques and filter implementation including 3-phase input and output filters
- Experience of design techniques for high voltage (up to 1500V)
- Experience / knowledge of power switching stage modulation techniques
- Power magnetics (inductor & transformer) design for multi-kW AC-DC, DC-DC and DC-AC converters
- Knowledge of power electronics thermal management strategies
- Design for EMC at PCB level
- Worst-case circuit analysis
- Schematic and PCB design
- Compilation of electronics HW functional test specifications
- Simulation experience with one or more of the following: Simetrix SPICE, SIMPLIS, Matlab Simulink, LTSpice
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
